Network Design For Hospital

Hello,

I am a high school student and I need to prepare a report about network design in hospital. Things like: which network devices we need, how heavy the load is from in departmet (e.g. registration, operation room, etc), and how we can calculate this load for each machine (i.e. computers connected to our network) and how we can allocate enough bandwidth for them. Please if you know any good book or website, tell me to check.

Thank you very much

Pat :-)

Re: Network Design For Hospital

Hi Pat,

I'm not that familiar with hospital needs, though I would suggest that a hospital would now need:

1. 100Mbps symmetric connection to ISP
2. layer 3 gigabit switches switches at every department with 10 Gigabit fibre back to the central router.
3. Possible routers at departments to segment areas within the Department
4. firewall and DMZ between hospital and ISP
5. secure VPN access to certain Departments
6. wireless in some areas for patients that would be secure and isolated from other areas of the Department

and so on, hopefully this will help you start.

regards, Mark Gregory
