CAT5E Cable problem

Can you tell me why my cable does not allow me to connect to the internet?

The cable runs between a computer and a router.

PC || RJ45---------------------------------------------RJ45 || Router

This works well. Then I use the femail connector on the right below...

Then I extend it thus...

PC || RJ45---------------------RJ45 F/Male Connector--------------------F/Male connector RJ45-----------------RJ45 || Router

This does not work. The wiring is all straight through. No crossover.

What is the problem? How can I fix it?

Hi, It looks like the crossover may be in the RJ45 female / RJ45 female. This is an unusual way to create a longer cable. I recommend buying a longer cable and this should resolve the problem.

Alternatively, use a crossover cable in the last link and see if this resolves the problem.

Do you have access to a multimeter or a friend with a multimeter? Get one and then find out what the copper connectivity is at both ends.
