How to het into networking?

Hi there, nice forum, hopefully we'll get some more posts on it.

Now, my question is, as the name of the topic says, how to get into networking.

I would like to hear from you, how did you start?

Apparently, experience is very important in this job. I'll explain my case, i've graduated last year(IT), and got my CCNA at the end of the year. I have job experiences, but unfortunatelly not within IT. I've started applying for net jobs, but so far all i got were negative responses.

Would you recomend starting in any field of IT, like helpdesk/programming, etc and then try to break into networking. Or something else? I would really like to hear from you.

Regards

Re: How to het into networking?

Hi,

you are well on your way to a job in networking. You have a qualification and CCNA so what to do next?

I get asked this question a lot and I recommend:

  1. Take any job and then start applying for other jobs more suited to what you want to do. It is one of those things that it is easier to get a new job when you are in a job than when you are unemployed.
  2. You just finished a qualification in IT so you have a class full of peers. Build your network, talk to the people you graduated with and ask them if they know of opportunities. Remember to network with people!
  3. Do voluntary work. There are many organisations that could do with help, especially with their computers and network. Many not for profit organisations exist because volunteers help out. Think about hospitals, charities, interest groups and so on. Doing voluntary work can look very good on a CV and you are likely to get good references from the key people in the organisation.
  4. Apply for jobs everywhere, not just in your home town. Sometimes you need to move to get a job that will help you with your career.

I hope this helps.

regards, Mark

Re: How to het into networking?

actually, I have got the same problem with you.

I have already ggraduated from school for about 2 years, in shcool my subject is software engineering but I dont like it.Then I got work in coffee house, cinema, restaurant as a waiter. About 1 year ago, I got network administrator career, it't a simply work, then I have a lots of time to study. The longer I study network knowledge, I realized that my job can't took me go further, then I got my second sleeve-fish, haha.

Now, I still study network knowledge and get ready to find a job in a professional network company. Good Luck, both you and me
