The Australian Government has introduced legislation to block illegal website content.

Government censors will identify websites with illegal content and add the website to a list of banned websites. ISPs will be required to block the websites on the list so that customers will not be able to access these websites. Is this a new concept? No. The government has used censors for books, films and other media for many years.

Is the proposal the best solution. No it is not. The blocking and filtering should occur at the points of entry to Australia rather than making this a problem for the ISPs.

Who will be given the challenge of implementing the legislation. Network engineers thats who. The implementation strategy adopted by organisations will require expertise and network engineers will be the people developing the solution and implementing it.

regards, Mark
